The Urbane Weekender 8-11 July 2016 Filey, Yorks
£495 – SOLD OUT
The Urbane Weekender is a 3-night writing retreat with workshops and a chance to get your MS reviewed by Urbane Publications founder and Managing Director, Matthew Smith. The workshops are with two Urbane authors – Amanda Saint and Richard Skinner. There’s time to write, workshops, 1-1s, readings and a competition too.
There are 1-1s with either Amanda Saint or Richard Skinner to review the first page of your novel (up to 500 words) and all writers that come will get to read theirs out on the Sunday night. Using the very scientific method of a clap/cheerometer, we’ll vote for a winner who will get their full MS read by Matthew with a view to Urbane potentially publishing it.
Since Matthew launched Urbane Publications less than 2 years ago he has established it as an impressive and innovative press willing to take a chance on new writers and genres. He’ll be telling you why and how he picks the novels he publishes, how he launches and sells them, and how you can impress him with your queries and submissions.
The retreat is taking place in this gorgeous house, which has sea views.
This is an outline of what the weekend looks like:
Friday – Arrivals & Welcome
You’ll arrive in the afternoon and get settled then we’ll have welcome drinks and dinner and then Matthew will give an informal talk about Urbane, what he looks for in a novel and how the relationship with publisher and author works.
Saturday – The Write Better Day
Monday – farewells after breakfast!
